Salvatore Siriano, composer, audiovisual artist, educator

Salvatore Siriano is a Chicago-based composer, audiovisual artist, and educator whose work explores the intersection of sound, imagery, and nature through technology. He blends field recordings, synthesis, acoustic instruments, and self-filmed videos to create engaging multimedia experiences.

Recent presentations of his audiovisual compositions include the Seoul International Computer Music Festival, the Central Washington University New Music Festival, SEAMUS 40th Anniversary Concert, Ohio University, the Indianapolis Arts Center, Ball State University, Contemporary Venice 2024, the Napoleon Electronic Media Festival, Earth Day Art Model, Aurora Public Art Gallery, Fermilab, McAninch Arts Center, and the Cernan Space Center. In collaboration with Chicago photographer Alice Hargrave, Siriano developed immersive sound collages for her Sea Change and Forest Shouting exhibitions.

As a music educator, he has led workshops on fostering equity in music education through technology for Illinois school districts and at the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children Convention. In the summer of 2024, Siriano taught music at the Roi Et School for the Blind in Thailand, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy, Northern Illinois University, and Mahidol University.

Appointed in 2020, Siriano is tenured faculty at Triton College, where he teaches music theory and technology to many first-generation college students—just like himself. He has hosted a virtual lecture/recital series inviting artists from across the United States to perform and engage in conversations with Triton students and the community. Recent lecture/recitals include a conversation with social justice artist and photographer Tonika Lewis Johnson, the Colombian American group EnsAmble Ad-Hoc, Portland sound artist Crystal Quartez, and Michael Heralda, creator of Aztec Stories. Siriano also curates a global music series on campus in collaboration with Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. In 2023, he was awarded Triton College’s Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member of the Year.
