Oboist and composer Laura Adkins has been an advocate of contemporary music for much of her professional career. She was recently awarded a scholarship to attend a composition residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts with her duo partner, pianist and composer Jonathan Hannau, which resulted in a full-length, collaboratively-composed concert program. In 2016, Laura attended the Darmstadt New Music Festival in Germany, which included intensive study with Peter Veale. Laura completed both her bachelor’s and master’s at DePaul University in Chicago, studying with Jelena Dirks, Eugene Izotov, and John Dee. Additional teachers have included Scott Hostetler, Carolyn Hove, Christopher Redgate, and Bill Buchman. As a freelancer in the Chicago area, Laura has performed with numerous local ensembles, and at such venues as Symphony Center, Millennium Park, The Harris Theater, The Green Mill, and a number of other storefront venues, bookstores, coffee shops, and hidden gems around the city.
