Heike Burghart Rice is the Director of Music Ministries at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hinsdale, Illinois. An ardent advocate for new music, Dr. Burghart Rice has performed solo organ works by Marilyn Shrude, William Bolcom, Steven Rice, and works for organ and electronics by Matthew McCabe, Huw Morgan, and Daniel Pinkham. She has performed P.P.S., a sui generis work by Philip Blackburn that involves constructing an apparatus to play the organ at a distance from the console. Her doctoral research centered around the repertory and performance practice of music for organ and electronics.
Heike’s previous positions include Minister of Music at Woodbrook Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where she served for ten years, and Summerside United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. She studied organ with Richard Stewart, Gregory Crowell, and Roberta Gary and piano with Carol lei Breckenridge and Peter VanDessel. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in organ from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan and a Master’s and Doctorate in organ from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.
